French Kiwi Juice

FKJ’s self-titled album is a relaxed and atmospheric listen. Narrative takes a back seat to sonic cohesion, but I still think that these songs are best enjoyed as an album. It may not be the most boundary breaking or experimental but I think that works to the albums advantage. I love jazz but it can easily become esoteric and stuffy. There is nothing wrong with challenging the listener but sometimes I just want an album that causes no friction. I think FKJ does an effective job distilling the elements I dig from jazz so they can be mixed with funk and electronic dance music. It’s inoffensive, laid back pop music that I couldn’t stop listening to when I first discovered it and keep coming back to. Just because something is accessible doesn’t mean it lacks merit. This is an album for rolling down the windows and driving somewhere slow or just recline somewhere cozy and turn off your brain.
